writing to yourself



what is it about journals? writing to yourself, as if you don't have a lot in your mind already.

how often do you spend your days reminiscing on negative past events or worrying about what might happen in the future? reflecting and regretting on your mistakes or behavior in order to become a better version of yourself. forgetting to be thankful is a free ticket to depression, anxiety and countless other problems. the odds may not always be in your favor, but there's always something to be grateful for, no matter how small. as a diffident person with such ineffable thoughts, i find it very helping. getting to clarify my thoughts, getting to know myself better, finally.. letting it all out. i've been on some anxiety medications for quiet some time now, which makes me (sometimes) forgetful. but it's always nice to keep track of the things you've been doing, whether if it's good or bad.

but why do people see it as such an abomination? something immature or childish to do? even some of the most influential people in history kept detailed journals of their lives, including Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison and Frida Kahlo. why did you feel the need to give up journaling when you reach a certain age?

how? there is never a right or wrong way to write one. devote yourself into it, make it as honest as you can, give yourself a license to go out into your own world, ask questions to yourself, have a dialogue with yourself, and let me tell you one thing - it's worth it.
